「百本立」on the package means "100-tines". Traditional Japanese tea ceremonies utilize a handcrafted bamboo chasen (matcha whisk) to prepare perfectly smooth matcha. Although the higher the number, the easier it is to create fine bubbles, both 80- and 100-tine whisks are suitable for beginners and daily use.
There are only a limited number of chasen artisans left in Japan, so most chasens sold are made in China, even when labeled "Japanese Chasen." But these are still high-quality and long-lasting.
