Gong Dao Bei 公道杯/茶海 (also called Justice Cup) by Ben Suga of Suga Pottery in soft yellow. The small pitcher is used in traditional Chinese Gong Fu Cha (tea brewing) to ensure every guest receives tea of the same exact strength and color.
Even though we specialize in Japanese teaware, we decided to include this collection to expand our knowledge of Asian tea practices. You can choose to use the cup for sake, milk, creamers, or sauces.
The deep glossy iron-rich temmoku surface breaks into subtle bronzes and soft metallic highlights along the rim, creating a quiet sense of movement as light travels across the bowl.
With roots in Japan and apprenticing with renowned ceramic masters in Karatsu, Japan, and Minnesota, Ben Suga focuses on creating high-quality ceremonial teaware, tableware, and sculpture in his studio in the Catskill Mountains.
These stoneware bowls are fired at high temperatures, resulting in their durability.
They also make perfect gifts for anyone. We offer our signature gift-wrapping, which includes an eco-friendly kraft box, noshi paper, and a mizuhiki tie.
